About this book
This book was written as a practical guide for anyone involved in freshwater fisheries management in temperate regions. Although it is primarily concerned with the British Isles, the principles set out apply in many other countries. The Severn-Trent Water Authority is one of the largest water authorities in Britain and is unusual in that its area includes important salmonid fisheries, coarse fisheries and eel fisheries. It engages in salmonid and coarse fish breeding and fish farming. Its staff are well qualified to advise on fisheries management and they here discuss the most common problems and point to sources for further information. Divided into three main sections, the whole book comprises a practical guide for the active fisheries manager and gives background material for the administrator, while its style will appeal equally to the layman and to the serious student of freshwater biology.
