Where to sell textbooks for the most money
Buyback sites pay quickly. Another student will often pay more for the edition their module needs. Here's how the main UK options compare, from their own terms.
What would your copy sell for here?
See what copies of that exact edition sell and are listed for on our marketplace. Free, no account needed.
The 10 or 13-digit number printed by the barcode.
The honest trade-off
Speed against price: decide which matters more for each book.
Buyback is faster
You get an offer straight away and the money soon after your books pass their checks. Good for clearing a shelf in one go, or for books few students need.
A student usually pays more for a current edition
A buyback offer has to leave room for the service to resell. Selling direct, you set the price for an edition someone on the module needs now. You wait for that buyer, though.
Marked copies are where rules differ most
One service rejects any highlighting, one allows a little, one asks for clean pages. To another student, careful notes can be a plus if you describe them.
How the options compare
From each service's own help and terms pages, checked 17 October 2026. Terms change, so confirm on their site before you send anything.

Questions
- Can I still trade in books on Amazon UK?
- Amazon.co.uk's Trade-In page lists Amazon devices and pays in Amazon.co.uk gift cards. We found no option there to trade in books.
- Are Ziffit and World of Books the same service?
- Yes. ziffit.com now redirects to World of Books' Sell Your Books site, which says the two are connected. Treat them as one buyer, not two separate quotes.
- Which buyback service pays the most for textbooks?
- It depends on the exact ISBN and changes often, so we don't publish their prices. Put the same ISBN into each service's own site, and into our valuation tool, then compare.
- Can I sell a textbook with highlighting?
- On the pages we checked, musicMagpie rejects books with highlighting or annotations, WeBuyBooks accepts some on fewer than 20% of pages, and World of Books asks for pages free from writing. Selling to another student, you describe the marks in your listing.
