What to Do With Old ACCA Study Texts (2026 Guide)

That pile of ACCA books is worth real money - for now

Every ACCA candidate knows the pile: study texts and exam kits from papers you've already passed, sitting on a shelf doing nothing. You paid £62-£78 per paper for them new - a BPP Course Book runs £39-£46 and an Exam Practice Kit £23-£28, with Kaplan's Study Texts and Exam Kits priced similarly. Across thirteen papers, that's roughly £900 of books for the full qualification.

Here's the part most people miss: those books don't hold their value indefinitely. ACCA materials are printed for specific exam sittings, and once an edition's validity window closes, its resale value collapses to almost nothing. A current-edition text in good condition typically resells for half its new price; a superseded one struggles to fetch the cost of postage.

So the answer to "what should I do with my old ACCA books?" depends almost entirely on which edition you're holding - and right now, there's an unusual reason to act quickly.

Check your edition's validity window first

For most papers, editions follow the syllabus year: a 2026-27 edition covers the September 2026 through June 2027 sittings. The current cycle looks like this:

2026-27 editions (published mid-2026): valid for exams from September 2026 to June 2027. These are worth the most.
Tax papers (TX and ATX) follow the Finance Act instead: FA2025 editions are examinable from June 2026 to June 2027 per ACCA's official examinable documents - note that some Kaplan covers print "March 2027", but ACCA's window governs. FA2024 editions expired after March 2026.
Knowledge papers (BT, MA, FA) and LW are on-demand computer-based exams, and there were no syllabus changes this cycle - BPP didn't even print new 2026-27 editions for them, so its September 2025 books remain current stock.

The 2027 deadline every seller should know about

ACCA is redesigning the whole qualification from 2027: 13 exams become 11, with new Knowledge exams from July 2027 and new Strategic exams from September 2027. Current-format books remain valid through the June 2027 sittings - and then the entire current catalogue becomes obsolete at once.

That puts a hard deadline on your shelf. A current-edition SBR text is a sought-after item today; after June 2027 it's recycling. If you've been meaning to sell, this is the cycle to do it.

Your options, ranked

Sell to the next cohort. With sittings every March, June, September and December, someone is always starting the paper you just finished. Current-edition texts and kits sell quickly and at the best prices. Listing is free, and buyers get tracked delivery and buyer protection.
Pass them to a colleague. Plenty of ACCA students are colleagues in the same training scheme - just make sure the edition is still valid for their sitting, or you're doing them a disservice (especially for TX/ATX, where an out-of-date Finance Act means the wrong tax rates).
Donate or recycle superseded editions. Expired tax editions and pre-restructure APM texts genuinely aren't worth listing. Charity shops will take them, though be aware they often can't sell dated study materials either.

A note on exam kits

One thing worth knowing whichever side of the trade you're on: tutors consistently advise that the exam kit matters more than the text for currency, because question banks are updated every year even when the syllabus isn't. If you're selling a current-edition kit, mention the edition prominently - it's the item buyers most need to be current. If you're buying, it's the one place not to go too old. Old ACCA books are a depreciating asset with a known expiry date.
