Are Your Old CIMA and AAT Books Worth Money? (2026 Seller Guide)

Two qualifications, two very different answers

If you've finished CIMA or AAT papers, the books on your shelf fall into two very different categories - and knowing which is which decides whether they're worth listing or recycling.

CIMA runs on a calendar-year clock. Kaplan is CIMA's only official publisher, and each edition is printed with a validity window of 1 January to 31 December of its year. A 2026 study text (£44-£47 new) is a current, in-demand item all year - then gets superseded in January.

AAT is the opposite: mostly evergreen. Kaplan and BPP both reprint each academic year with new ISBNs, but for non-tax units the content barely changes across the Q2022 syllabus, which has been running since September 2022 with no replacement announced for Levels 2 and 3. An AAT bookkeeping or management-accounting text from a year or two ago covers the same assessments as this year's - which makes used AAT books some of the most durable second-hand stock in professional study.

What's worth selling in 2026

CIMA - sell current-year editions now:

  • Any 2026 edition study text or exam kit (BA1-BA4, E1/P1/F1, E2/P2/F2, E3/P3/F3) is at peak value until December. CIMA objective tests run on demand all year, so there's always someone starting your paper.
  • 2025 editions are workable-with-gaps - the 2026 update added sustainability and generative-AI content under existing learning outcomes without removing anything - so they still sell, at a discount.
  • Pre-2025 editions have little value left. The framework hasn't structurally changed since 2019, but each year's additions compound.
  • Case study materials (OCS/MCS/SCS) are window-specific, but each pre-seen spans two consecutive exam windows - so materials from the May window are still current for August.

AAT - almost everything non-tax:

  • Level 2 and Level 3 texts (ITBK, POBC, PCTN, BESY, BUAW, FAPS, MATS) hold value regardless of printing year, because the Q2022 content is stable. New texts are only £28, so used copies trade cheaper than ACCA books - but they keep selling year after year.
  • The tax units are the exception. TPFB (Level 3), and PNTA/BNTA (Level 4) follow the Finance Act and are valid for one calendar year of assessments - current editions are FA2025, covering exams in 2026 only. Out-of-year tax editions aren't sellable.
  • Level 4 has a deadline: a new Level 4 syllabus launches in September 2026, and Q2022 Level 4 assessments run only until July 2028. Existing Level 4 students still need Q2022 books until then - but the buyer pool shrinks from here, so sooner beats later.

Full edition-by-edition validity tables for every paper are on our CIMA and AAT guides.

When to sell for the best price

The pattern across all professional qualifications is the same: books are worth the most immediately after you pass, while the edition is unambiguously current.

  • For CIMA, that means listing during the year printed on the cover - a 2026 text listed in August has months of buyers left; listed in December, days.
  • For AAT, timing matters less for non-tax units (that's the beauty of evergreen stock), but demand is steady year-round because AAT assessments run on demand.

Selling is free to list on UniBookTrade - you set the price, shipping is tracked, and you're paid out after delivery. If you're on the other side of the trade and starting a new paper, browse the professional exam books section, where every paper page pairs the live listings with its edition-validity table.

The five-minute version

  1. Pull the pile off the shelf and check each book's edition year (CIMA) or unit and syllabus (AAT).
  2. CIMA 2026 editions and AAT non-tax units: list them. They have real buyers right now.
  3. CIMA pre-2025, out-of-year tax editions: recycle guilt-free.
  4. Price current editions at roughly half of new and they'll move - your buyer saves, you recover £15-£25 a book, and the books get a second reader instead of a landfill.
